Goal of the Organization
The mission of Network for Peace and Development (NEPED) is to be a key player in building values for Good Governance, Democracy and Conflict Resolution. NEPED strives to develop potentials in communities, by harnessing the abundant Human and Natural resources available, striking a co-creative partnership with the people (particularly youth and women).
Broadly, NEPED goals are to strengthen democratic values, reduce poverty and injustice and advance human achievement

Projects
NEPED Partner with different institutions to execute the following projects;
A.Project Title: Enhancing the capacity of youth for conflict management in Lagos State.
Project Description: Training of one hundred and fifty (150) youth from five local government in Lagos State Munshin, Shomolu, Ikeja, Kosofe and Oshodi in conflict management. A total of five capacity building workshop lasting 3 days with 30 participants drawn from each of the LGA. Participants at the end of training, formed a self sustaining Conflict Mitigation Committee (CMC).
Partners:The project was sponsored by United States Agency for International Development/Office of the Transition Initiative USAID/OTI. (see attached grant papers)
B.Project Title: Aquaculture Project Imagbon, Ijebu-Ode.
Project Description: Over the period of six months, NEPED trained youths (4 Farm Assistants) at Imagbon on fish breeding (Catfish & Tilapia) induced and natural spooning and grow-out techniques. The high point of the project was breeding of catfish in the wild using a modified basket as a hatchery.
Partner: Owoduni farms, Imagbon (Ishiwo Road), Ijebu Ode.
C.Project Title: Training of Women and Youth, Leadersin Akwa-Ibom State.
Project Description: 30 women and youth leaders of Ini LGA., Akwa-Ibom, were trained in a Democracy and Human right school. Participants in the forum also did the resource mapping of the LGA and proposed strategy for effective targeting of the poor and skill required for development for small enterprise development. They also formed a self sustaining Women and Youth Empowerment Network, WOYEN.
Partners: World Bank sponsored the project. (see attached grant)
D.Project Title: Educational Tour Delta State
Project Description: NEPED was part of the coalition of NGO that toured Delta State to assess Educational and related institution.
The tour covered post primary and tertiary institution, recreational faculties and host communities of tertiary institutions.
Partners: International Union of Students, IUS, All African Students Union and Delta State Government (Sponsored the tour)
F.Project Title:Participatory Project Planning Forum, Ndokwa West.
Project Description: The forum was facilitated by NEPED in line with its core principles to promote development processes base on the need of the community.
The various clans identified different project, which could broadly classified as;
Extension of water supply and Sinking of new bore-hole, Drainage work to de-flood specific areas; Grading of farm roads, Renovation of Colleges (Schools), Completion of Hospitals / Construction of new Cottage Hospitals; Stringing of Electricity in streets, Installation of Transformer, Completion of Post office, Dredging of lakes, Promotion of Peace, Creation of Employment opportunities, Training Institutes, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Projects, Distribution of Improved Agricultural imputs and Environmental Protection Project
The women and youth groups also emphasized micro-finance to fund Agriculture and small enterprises development, Setting up of a training institute, Creating employment and creation of a co-operative market. (see communique for details).

G. Project Title: Internet Training Calabar
Project Description: NEPED trained NGOs in use of Internet in Calabar. The session was declared a bonus session for participant at a 5 day capacity building training for proposal writing, strategic planning and participatory approaches. The bonus session was also open to youth focused NGOs.
Participant led by the facilitator listed their expectation guided by this participants trained in the following aspect of use of Internet. An overview of the use of Internet; opening an E-mail Account; sending of E-mail; and searching for information on the Internet. Training was done on line with intermittent explanation from the facilitator.

NEPED is also working on the following projects:
A.)MICRO FINANCE TRAINING AND IMPLEMENTATION
NEPED has formal training in micro finance from PLANET FINANCE. Planet Finance mission is to enhance the professionalism and the sources of capital of the micro finance sector. Recently, NEPED was invited to join Planet Finance micro finance platform. This relationship forms part of the critical build up to promote the following:
1.Reduce the digital divide by connecting MFIs to the rest of the world with computer and IT training.
2.Transfer knowledge and build capacity of micro finance practitioners.
3.Increase Transparency by assessing the financial performance of MFIs with planet finances GIRAFE rating methodology - readily useable by banks investment funds and other mutilated institutions seeking to finance MFIs.
4.Increase founding dedicated to MFIs and micro-entrepreneurs via Planet finance revolving credit fund. (attached are the relevant letters).
B.DEMONSTRATION FARM AND AGRICULTURAL TRAINING CENTRE.
NEPED in partnership with the private sector is planning to establish the above project to improve the production, thereby addressing the gab in income and living standard between peasant families and urban dwellers.
The centre will challenge farmers to take advantage of existing opportunities for crop enhancement and land management training, to focus instead on effective agricultural business development. A demonstration farm will be set up to promote alternative production process, new uses of natural resources and marketing technique. And the training centre through technical assistance, credit and access to market, will help peasant families to organize and produce outputs that are marketable of reasonable quality, and ecologically sustainable (Training will be base on their own experience).
C.GLOBAL ALLIANCE FOR YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROJECT
(NEPED TO CREATE 100,000 JOBS IN 10 YEARS)
The Youth Employment summit YES 2002 at Alexandria, Egypt marks the genesis of a movement that embraces the idea that youth have the potential, and spirit to be powerful agent of transformation. The idea of youth employment is vital, especially when today Youth face challenges that are so severe they often seem insurmountable.
It is against this background that the Global Alliance for Youth Employment has Lunched series of activities with the prime objective to provide youth with the tools and knowledge necessary to be active participants in achieving the YES goal of ensuring that five hundred million young adults, especially youth facing poverty will have productive and sustainable livelihoods by the year 2012. The Youth Employment Summit (YES), a global forum on Youth Employment, development, was held in Alexandria, Egypt, September 7-11, 2002. The secretariat for this conference is being hosted at Education Development centre (EDC a non profit NGO based in Boston USA.
Network for Peace and Development NEPED a member of the Global Alliance for youth Employment lunched a Nigerian campaign to generate 100,000 jobs for young adults by the year 2012 (see attached Newspaper cutting).
Staffing Pattern of NEPED
NEPED has eight full time staff and 12 volunteers of diverse professional background manning the various responsibilities of the organisation. To make up the required workforce in a particular project NEPED offers temporary employment tied to project duration, finance and it management:

NEPED has a written financial management and reporting procedure, which is expressed in 3 documents named; The constitution, Accounting operational Manual and the Administrative Manual.
Annual report is routinely shared with members, there is more than one signatory on bank account, personnel policies are written and routinely applied. External audit are available for review. An accountant is employed as staff member.
